This directory of pulmonary rehabilitation facilities has been compiled using data collected from a number of sources, including patient-nominations. It is comprised of two lists: the first identifies those facilities I have confirmed to offer "multidisciplinary" rehab programs; the second (longer)
list represents, primarily, members of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) whose directory does not differentiate between multidisciplinary programs and those more limited in scope.
Why Multidisciplinary Pulmonary Rehabilitation? Multidisciplinary Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs teach the skill and develop the will for you to survive.
I refer often to Multidisciplinary Pulmonary Rehabilitation (or Wellness) Programs and, at times, may appear a fanatic on the subject, but the state of the medical arts has now advanced to a point where such programs, along with appropriate medications, are virtually certain to slow the progress of emphysema and other components of COPD and, barring surgery, are a patient's only hope for improving his or her QOL. If your doctor doesn't prescribe such a program, ask for it.
I discuss the "multidisciplinary" label in the chapter titled "A COPD Survival Guide" and in other chapters have included articles describing the serious emotional and psychological side effects of chronic illnesses. Because multidisciplinary programs address patient education and the treatment of the "whole patient," they supply many of the tools one needs to better manage his disease and meet all the new challenges it presents. Still, I ask you to remember that I am a layman and not qualified to judge
the quality of any medical facility or treatment program. You are encouraged to obtain such an opinion from your doctor or medical association.
Please Explore Both Lists
You are encouraged to explore both directory lists. Even if the most convenient site is not listed as multidisciplinary, that may be due to the lack of information from AACVPR, on an oversight on my part, and it may well be worth exploring. You should also seek program supervisors and therapists with whom you are most comfortable for, like hospitals and doctors, some seem more empathetic than others. Most of these programs offer free initial consultations and are excellent sources of information about treatment facilities, insurance coverage, and support groups.

Other Rehabilitation Facilities
Most of the rehab programs listed below are based on information provided in the directory of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. This directory contains a caveat stating that the listed facility, hospital, or clinic, paid for the listing, and "a listing in this
directory does not imply AACVPR endorsement." From this, and from personal experience, I know it is not an all-inclusive list.
I provide this information as a service to the reader and make no representation of the quality of services offered. I do not know which, if any, of these programs are multidisciplinary, or are more limited in scope. [In the absence of better information, however, a limited program might well be seen as being "better than nothing" (and certainly better than a commercial gym) when one is looking for a nearby facility.]
Please write me with appropriate corrections or additional details.
